Most of the Gen Y, better known as the Millennials, is the generation facing workplace burnout issues. Despite being the largest working generation in the USA with exposure to advancing technology, this generation had had major issues at the workplace in regard to burnout and occupational disorders.

Austin Rolling, the CEO of Outfield rightly suggests that employers need to adapt new ways like Gamification to improve employee engagement and boost the competitive nature of the workforce.

A Pew Research Center study showed that since 2016, the millennials were the largest working generation in the US, and as the previous generations are retiring from their jobs, this generation is only growing further.

Although there is a lot of appreciation about the way the Gen Y works, and many claiming to learn a lot from their working style, there is a big concern about their tendency to be prone to workplace burnout issues.

Studies show that the workplace burnout issues are real, and employers must take adequate measures to help their workforce overcome these issues, and live a holistic life of good health and wellness. A Reuters study showed that compared to the previous generations, the millennials have a higher competitive drive. Employers must take advantage of this competiveness bring positive changes.

How Gamification Can Help The Millennials?

Simply put, Gamification is picking the concept of a game and implementing it at the workplace through tasks, competitions, and incentives. When done right, this idea fits well to all businesses and industries. Most managers look for key qualities like skills, effort, performance, and execution, and these skills can help in successful gamification at work to overcome the workplace burnout issues.

Gamification has been known to protect millennials in many ways, and here are the three proven reasons –

  1. Exposure to Digital Technology – The millennials grew and are growing up being exposed to the advancing technology. To launch the right gamification program at the workplace, employers need to consider a few key pointers –

  • Seek Feedback – The millennials want to be able to work with a cause and are driven by purpose, along with a competitive nature.  If the company’s policies do not reflect or have any social impact, it might not interest the Gen Y workforce. This is why it is important to seek feedback from the employees and know their interests. Ask questions to know their goals, interests, and requirements, and structure the incentives in line with the gamification efforts.
  • Test and Trial – A successful gamification program is the result of trial and error. No program is perfect from the start, and the one-size-fits-all strategy does not work with any module of the corporate wellness programs. Implement different strategies, test different metrics, and try different incentives.
