The COVID-19 pandemic has brought in many changes to many living aspects. Right from the employer’s perspective about employee health and wellness, to changing workplace culture and employee safety, companies have mended their working policies. Many companies anticipate that the changes brought about by the pandemic, including the workplace safety measures and employee benefits, will continue even after the pandemic subsides.

Studies show that a majority of employers plan to continue the workplace safety and employee wellness measures as a part of the back-to-workplace strategy. Also, 93% of employers look forward to expanding their virtual employee benefits, including digital health solutions, and other employee engagement strategies.

Many company executives agree that they are recovering gradually from the difficult times brought by the pandemic, and they were going to expand their employee health and wellness solutions to adapt to the changing workplace culture and new environment.

Likewise, there has also been a lot of emphasis on employee mental health initiatives to be offered through corporate wellness programs or as employee engagement strategies, as it was the most affected during the pandemic.

A recent survey showed the latest trends in line with the predicted 2021 employee benefits trends.

Flexible Workplace Culture

A previous Citrix survey showed that 88% of employees would choose employers who had a flexible workplace culture for remote work and working schedules. Post-COVID, many employers found remote working and flexible work schedules to be more beneficial for employee wellness, productivity, and retention. And so, 89% of employers were planning on building a flexible workplace culture. Also, 69% of employers were ready to offer the needed home office subsidies to support working from home, ensuring employee productivity and quality of work.

Expanding Virtual Benefits

Telemedicine, digital health solutions, and other virtual care services rose in demand during the pandemic since the social restrictions stopped many from going to the hospitals for their medical needs. Considering their ease and reliability, many employers felt they should include virtual care benefits in their employee benefits package to ensure better access to medical and telehealth care. Although there are a few issues faced by the virtual healthcare industry, 87% of employers were planning to expand their telemedicine resources and other virtual care services for employee wellness and safety.

Employee Mental Health Services

Employee mental health was primarily affected during the pandemic, impacting their holistic health. The social isolation, remote working, financial worries, and many other factors have stressed the employees from various corners, affecting their mental wellness, which impacted employee productivity and engagement. 88% of the employers are now planning to expand their corporate wellness programs by offering mental health resources. Additionally, they also look to offer other employee benefits, including caregiving programs, financial wellbeing programs, and more.

Virtual Employee Engagement Strategies

Employee engagement was a matter of concern during the COVID-19 pandemic. Right from the health and wellness issues, to remote working, it led to the lack of employee engagement and team bonding. Even the long virtual meetings couldn’t help much with it. However, employers realized the importance and impact of employee engagement on their productivity, workplace wellness, and business growth. And so, they started drafting employee engagement strategies that benefit the workforce and the company. Employee expectations for engagement and workplace wellness have changed, and almost 93% of employers were reinventing their employee engagement strategies to accommodate the virtual employee benefits.

Employee benefits have always been effective employee engagement strategies, along with boosting employee retention and organizational productivity. Offering the right workplace benefits package has established trust and a healthy relationship between the workforce and employers. With the right support, leadership skills, and investment in employee health and wellness requirements, employers can not only continue to maintain this relationship for long, but also have a competitive edge in the market.
